My name is Kori Hampton and I currently am a staff nurse in a medical intensive care and coronary care unit in Little Rock, Arkansas. Before graduating from nursing school, I worked as a nursing assistant and a Licensed Practical Nurse. I have worked as a bedside nurse in critical care, med-surg, radiology, and the cath-lab. In the process, I discovered my love for teaching. Whether it was precepting a new graduate or championing new policies and teaching staff nurses how to implement them, having knowledgeable nurse educators is essential to the nursing profession.
I graduated with my BSN from University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2017. I knew I wanted to pursue a post-graduate degree, but was unsure how I would be able to work full-time while doing it. After speaking with a co-worker, who recently graduated from Walden, I knew this would be the best fit for my vision for myself and my future career goals. Walden is devoted to helping students balance their education with their personal and professional lives (Walden, 2020a). This affords me to further my education at a pace that works with, not against, my work and family life.
I aim to achieve the vision that Walden sets forth, specifically advancing the greater good(2020a). As a nurse educator, I have the patience, understanding, and knowledge to be an effective educator and be an agent of positive social change (2020a) for nurses, nursing students, and the communities that I am a part of. Stys (2008) stated “most everyone believes that working or social justice is a noble undertaking, but nurses can do better to educate themselves, their peers, and their students about what social justice requires of nurses as health care leaders and educators.”(p.368).
Another way I plan to utilize my degree is to serve the role as a community health nurse. Sometimes access to care is not the problem, lack of knowledge is. In my opinion, community health nursing can be the first line of defense for many patients, many whom don’t even have a primary physician. I put on a yearly health far at my church in which we check blood pressure, glucose, perform rapid HIV tests, and talk to members of our community about the importance of taking care of themselves. Whether it be in the hospital setting teaching experienced nurses, or as a faculty nursing instructor for a college, I am prepared to promote quality improvement of patient-centered care in accordance with professional practice standards that transform health outcomes for diverse populations(2020b).

My University Goals, Vision and Missions
“To be successful, you have to use each day as an opportunity to improve, to do better and to get a little bit closer to your goals”. The more you accomplish, the more you will want to do, the higher you will want to reach (Lydia Sweatt,2016). My name is Mia Christine Uy, from Washington State. I graduated with Bachelors of Nursing ’93 in the Philippines. I have been in a different area in Nursing. In 2004, My Nursing journey had change and I continue to explore myself by coming here in the United States. I may look so experienced because I have been on a nursing field for 27 years, but I have something to say, It’s the opportunity and the search of how I make myself best in my purpose in life.
Walden understands the dreams and nurses. Developed and taught by real practitioner, offers online programs which empowers to further education without pausing one’s life, make your voice be heard and shape nursing career you have always wanted to be (Walden University, n.d). The vision is for graduate to transform nursing to meet the needs of the communities (Walden University,2011a). When the Covid crisis came and changed our lives, it is a lot to ponder and realization of how my life and career is important. How I valued my career knowing of what I do and offer it to people. Being a nurse is a continuum, seeking advancement and new learning makes you one step higher among others. Transforming self from a novice nurse to an expert nurse (Laureate Education, videofile2 0.16sec)
While I am searching for an online school, Walden University pop out on my screen. Started the application and the enrollment officer called back and give me information. Walden University practices a policy of non-discrimination in admission to, access to and employment in its program and activities (Walden University,2020). Walden is efficient, flexible and navigating resources in helping their student to be successful (Laureate Education, videofile2). As I am new in an online classroom environment, I want to seek the best school there is. When I search their history as online school, I know I will never go wrong of my choice. Importantly, the track records of their professors. My academic goals resonate the mission and vison of Walden. I will not settle for less. I want to reach the finish line knowing I choose the best school for me. The support and resources are endless, and they make you feel that you are important in achieving your dreams.
Incorporation of Social Change
Nursing is a fast pace to change. You have to be innovated and determined to accelerate self. It is not stagnant, and it keeps on changing that you have to adapt the modernization on this field. Even in reality of life, we are multi-tasking. I have this vison in mind, that I can be worth of what I do by adapting to change. I can be an invaluable resource for knowledge that can be instrumental in advancing nursing career (Schimidt, K.(n.d.). Using Professional Networking will lead the way that changes can happen. Two heads are better than one. Seeking connections will be an instrument that will assist to change whether looking for a new opportunity. Getting referrals or access to people that will change and move you up step higher. Coming from an old school and updating self on this fast modern technology is the reason of choosing Nursing Informatics. I will be excited to finish this program and apply in the modern nursing.

Introduction
Hello colleagues of NURS 6003! My name is Arrick Bator and I’m from the seacoast of New Hampshire. I currently work as an RN circulator in the operating room at a level II trauma center, with several years’ experience in level I and II trauma emergency departments. I started working as a nursing assistant, in and out of the hospital, my junior year of high school. I then achieved my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts: Dartmouth, directly after high school. After working several years in the emergency department, I achieved my board certification in emergency nursing! Shortly after achievement of my certification, I decided to return to school in pursuit of my Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner specialization.
My Goals and Walden’s Vision and Mission
According to Walden University’s MSN Career Outlook flyer, professionals with MSN degrees are in high demand, and the BLS reports 24,000 position openings per year for nurse practitioners (2021), highlighting the need for nurse practitioners. As a registered nurse from a diverse, well-rounded background, with an interest and drive to expand my critical thinking and clinical skills to better serve the community I live in, my values are in-line with those of the University. With an MSN from Walden, I will be able to turn my aspirations into impact and am ecstatic that Walden is driven to see students like me succeed in the 21st century classroom.
Once I achieve my MSN from Walden, I look forward to being able to pass the FNP board exam and expand my perioperative practice by obtaining first assistant certification. Transitioning into the operating room as an RN broadened my perspective on the multifaced role of the RN in the surgical care continuum. A nurse practitioner with the ability to provide care across the ages with additional surgical first assist education and training, is in a unique position to provide support to patients throughout their health journey (Zarnitz & Malone, 2006).
Networking
Jain et al. described networking as building mutually beneficial professional relationships (2011). Better patient outcomes were attributed to nurses’ ability and drive to network, especially when it related to the learning and implementation of evidence-based practice (2011). Anders reported that networked-learning provided more meaningful and authentic learning as the student was more likely to retain and apply education that was meaningful to them (2018). For the budding nurse practitioner, networking is particularly important in finding practices, specialties, and places of employment that interest the student and is important to their success (Anders, 2018).
According to Schmidt, actively networking can greatly enhance the ability of the registered nurse to further their careers, assist their colleagues, and positively contribute to healthcare systems (n.d.). As I begin this program and continue to work as a circulator in the operating room, I am building my relationships with providers throughout the hospital I work for in order to create the greatest number of opportunities as practicum and employment as a nurse practitioner are in the near future! I look forward to working with you all this semester.
